Our EDI plan
We have an opportunity to put Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at the forefront of our organisation and our sector, to achieve impact through a cultural change as well as through our investments, demonstrating that diversity isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s also a route to excellence. We can do this through our behaviours, our culture, the support we provide to other organisations, the people we reach in our events and campaigns, our investment decisions and our capital.
Following a detailed independent review conducted by Inclusive Boards into our diversity and inclusion approach we have adopted a framework with three priority areas. Our EDI plan currently focuses on People and Culture, Engagement and Market Building and Investment and Portfolio. It is the first phase in our strategy to 2025 and we will continue to publish development and objectives on an annual basis.
-
People and culture
We want to improve our equality, diversity, and inclusion practice as an organisation, embedding this into our culture, policies, and practices. We want to ensure we live our values, demonstrating this through our behaviours and how we respect and value each other and the partners and organisations we work with.
-
Engagement and market building
We will work with partners to build our shared capacity and understanding on how to improve equality, diversity, and inclusion in the wider sector. We will develop shared tools and resources alongside others to support this and share and amplify the best practice of others.
-
Investment and portfolio
In our investment strategy we want to embed equalities, diversity, and inclusion considerations, reflecting these in how we approach impact. We want these considerations to be included in our investment tools, processes and decision making, ensuring we are intentional about change.

Women in Finance Charter
As a signatory of the Women in Finance Charter, we have made an ongoing commitment maintaining a level of at least 50% women at senior manager level within Big Society Capital. We will also maintain a level of at least 50% of women across the organisations as a whole, and focus on reducing our gender pay gap.
Diversity practices in the social investment sector
In our commitment to bring greater transparency and put diversity and inclusion at the forefront of our sector, we're sharing examples of the equality, diversity and inclusion practices of fund managers in our portfolio and wider sector.
